How Resist or Serve Expanded Season 7 Of The X-Files

Season 7 was a major turning point for The X-Files, as it marked David Duchovny's last year playing Fox Mulder on a regular basis, at least until the 2016 revival happened. It was also the first season to occur following the "Two Fathers/One Son" two-part episode in season 6, which saw the destruction of the Syndicate, and the death of most of its members.

Some fans would hold up season 7 as The X-Files' last great year, especially when compared to the post-Mulder seasons and the revivals, which mostly drew mixed to negative reviews. That's one reason it was such a treat when The X-Files: Resist or Serve came out in 2004, offering fans a chance to journey back. The story was written by actual X-Files writers, the score was composed by Mark Snow, and Duchovny and Gillian Anderson voiced their characters. Fans will recall that season 6 ended with the discovery of a mysterious alien artifact that did a number on Mulder, and then the first two episodes of season 7 were dedicated to uncovering the artifact's secrets and trying to heal Mulder's condition.

The story of Resist or Serve slots into season 7 right after "The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati," and is presented as three "lost" episodes of season 7, titled "Renascence," "Resonance," and "Reckoning." The first episode sees Scully and Mulder travel to the town of Red Falls, Colorado, to investigate a case involving zombies, more alien artifacts, and two teenage twins experimented on with the black oil. Krycek even shows up, voiced by Nicolas Lea. In episode 2, which features appearances by the CSM, Walter Skinner, The Lone Gunmen, and more, Mulder and Scully investigate the cover-up surrounding Red Falls, while Mulder suffers from radiation poisoning and hallucinations due to being near another alien artifact.

After discovering evidence revealing the secret brain surgery CSM had performed on Mulder while infiltrating a pharmaceutical company tied to the conspiracy, Mulder and Scully head to Tunguska, Russia in episode 3, where he had previously been infected by the black oil but saved due to a Russian vaccine. Krycek and CSM are there trying to recover a crashed alien ship, of course leading to conflict with Mulder, as well as a battle with a ghostly entity connected to the artifact, which the agents win. The X-Files: Resist or Serve video game is overall an excellent expansion and companion piece to season 7, and doesn't at all interfere with the established continuity.

Yes, but actually... No.
