Interview with ‘X-Files’ “Skinner” himself actor Mitch Pileggi

Examiner caught up with this talented and very popular actor at this year’s Denver Comic Con, and he is about as down to earth as one can get. Best known for his roles in the ‘X-Files’ epic films and TV series, ‘Supernatural’, and ‘Sons of Anarchy,’ and ‘Stargate: Atlantis,’ chatting with Pileggi was like catching up with an old friend.

Q. You know I’m going to ask about ‘X-Files.’ I know you can’t tell me much. How does it feel to be coming back to it after all these years?
A. I can’t tell you how excited I am. Everything happened so fast. I haven’t talked to David and Gillian, but I’ve been seeing their responses in articles and their excitement level. And that just makes it more exciting for everyone else. It’s their show and Chris’ show, ya know. So knowing that everyone is going in to this with such great amazing, positive energy and excitement is thrilling to me. I love the show and I love the character and I miss it. After having done the show for nine years, we were kind of like OK, let’s do something else. Ready to move on to something else, and then after a bit of time passed, I really missed it. And now that we’ve been presented with this great opportunity to do it again, it’s like this golden opportunity. It’s so gratifying to have this. It’s gonna be interesting how we all approach our characters after so much time has passed. It’s pretty thrilling. We have a new generation of fans. I mean my daughter had a couple friends come over, and they were very, very quiet. When they left, they didn’t say much. I said to my daughter, did they think I was weird or something? Just as they walked out the door they whipped around and said “You didn’t tell us your dad was Skinner!”

Q. I just want to know if you have any hidden talents. Anything your fans would be shocked to know about you.
A. I can’t…I’m really kind of boring. I love to sing. I’m trying to learn how to play the piano. I think my fans know that I sing. I think it’s pretty well documented that Duchovny and I used to sing show tunes on the set. Of course, I haven’t out an album! I think it’s great that he did that. I think it’s absolutely so cool that the dude’s writing a book—he’s putting out albums and it’s like go for it! Have a ball with this stuff. I want to be David Duchovny (laughs hard).
Yes, but actually... No.
