Entertainment Weekly takes a look back at actors who were once considered for now-iconic
roles, and analyzes whether or not they could've been (good) contenders. One (of ten) totally ridiculous but almost-really-happened movie roles is listed in the tittle.
THE BACKSTORY: The truth is out there: Not all Andersons are alike. Yet when producers were casting the early-’90s sci-fi drama, it was Baywatch’s
Pamela Anderson who caught their eye, according to the other Anderson.
"She was someone who was more familiar to them in terms of what was on
TV at the time," Gillian Anderson’s been reported as saying. "They were
looking for someone bustier, taller, leggier than me."
THE VERDICT: Gillian was the one — the onscreen
magic between her Scully and David Duchovny’s Mulder helped keep the
show on the air for nine years, garnering a total of 62 Emmy nominations
and 16 awards.
