We’re in the middle of 90s month and this week we’re looking
at the best horror TV shows of the 90s. My only caveat is that it had
to be aimed at adults. No Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of the Dark or anything like that. I have nothing else to add so let’s stop wasting time and let the nostalgia wave hit us.
#10: Brimstone (1998-1999)
#9: Forever Knight (1992-1996)
#8: American Gothic (1995-1996)
#7: The Outer Limits (1995-2002)
#6: Millennium (1996-1999)
#5: Monstervision (1993-2000)
#4: Twin Peaks (1990-1991)
#3: Tales From The Crypt (1989-1996)
#2: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003)
#1: The X-Files (1993-2002)
The X-Files may actually be my favorite show of all time.
Yeah, it collapsed under the weight of its own conspiracy theories, it
stuck around too long and season nine was a total washout that ended
without resolving its own story. I don’t care, because when this show
was on fire, it was on fire. The leads were spot on in their roles which
not only were great from day one, but actually grew over time and
matured. Scully started out skeptical, but eventually she became more
open to Mulder’s ideas. Mulder started out kind of fanatical, but
eventually he grew into more than just a paranoid FBI agent.
I know there are faults, but there are faults with nearly every TV
show. This was one of the first major genre shows I watched and it
instantly became one of my favorites. You have no idea how bad the
summer of 1995 was to me knowing Mulder may have been dead after the
season two finale. I probably shouldn’t have been watching this as young
as I was, but hey, wouldn’t you watch something this cool?
The news of the revival excites me, especially since it’s a limited
run. That means if they get David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson back,
they can stick around for the brief run, resolve the story they should
have resolved in the 2008 movie. If FOX brings it back, I’m there on day
one.
