In order for the series to go into production, both the Fox network and its partner studio 20th Century Fox Television (different entities under the same umbrella) need to sign off on the project.
If everything works out, the revival will likely serve as the network’s 2016 summer event show — a tradition than began with 24 and will continue with the upcoming Wayward Pines. With any luck, confirmation will come within the next month or two so that we can all start updating our fan fiction again.
If recent TV Wise report proves true, the network is reportedly open to bringing back the
show for a two-season run that would also bring back Mitch Pileggi as
Director Skinner and a number of key writers from the original creative
team.
