Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, David Duchovny addressed Ryan Coogler's upcoming reboot of The X-Files, revealing that discussions about his possible involvement have taken place, though nothing has been finalized. “There have been talks about certain things, but there’s nothing concrete at this point.”

Duchovny confirmed that he has spoken with Coogler and has a general understanding of the project, but has not yet read the script. “I’ve spoken to Ryan, and I have a general sense of what it is, but I haven’t read the script.”

The actor added that he does not know whether Fox Mulder even exists in the reboot's universe. “I don’t know what the world of his show is. I don’t know if my character exists in that show. It’s all hypothetical to me.”

Despite the uncertainty, Duchovny expressed support for the project and praised the original concept created by Chris Carter. “I always thought it was endlessly generative,” he said of the believer-versus-skeptic dynamic that defined the series.

He also emphasized that the success of any new version will depend largely on the writers. Looking back at the original show, he credited talents such as Vince Gilligan, Darin Morgan, Howard Gordon, and the Morgan brothers. “The X-Files was a movie idea every week,” Duchovny said.

Promoting Season 2 of Secrets Declassified, Duchovny also reflected on the surprising stories featured in the series. “Truth is stranger than fiction. I don’t have the imagination to make this stuff up. It really happened.”
