Fans of The X-Files will soon have the opportunity to watch a previously unseen version of The X-Files: I Want to Believe. According to Polygon, the release is a long-discussed director's cut that Chris Carter has wanted audiences to see for years, and it is finally making its streaming debut on Hulu.

The article notes that the new edition includes additional and altered material not featured in the 2008 theatrical release. Carter has repeatedly suggested that his original vision for the film was darker and more intense than the version ultimately released in theaters.

The movie reunites David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Mulder and Scully in a story driven more by horror and crime-mystery elements than by the alien mythology traditionally associated with the franchise. For longtime fans, the release offers a chance to experience a version of the film that is closer to the creator's original intentions and one of the most notable new The X-Files releases in recent years.
