David Duchovny has joined the cast of a new Netflix courtroom drama from director John Lee Hancock, based on the landmark legal case against chemical giant Monsanto. Duchovny joins an ensemble that includes Jonathan Bailey, Laura Dern, LaKeith Stanfield, Greg Kinnear, Melonie Diaz, Bilal Hasna, and Julia McDermott.

The film tells the true story of young attorney Brent Wisner, played by Jonathan Bailey, who takes on a seemingly impossible lawsuit against Monsanto on behalf of school groundskeeper Dewayne "Lee" Johnson. Johnson alleged that exposure to Roundup, Monsanto's best-known weed killer, caused him to develop non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

The case became a historic legal victory in 2018 when a jury ruled in Johnson's favor and awarded him $289 million in damages. The verdict paved the way for thousands of additional lawsuits against Monsanto and its parent company, Bayer.

Details regarding Duchovny's role remain under wraps, as do the characters played by the other newly announced cast members. Production began in 2026, and the film is set for release on Netflix.
