The X-Files Season 11: Fox Eyeing Longer Run of 8 to 10 New Episodes, Significant Talks Underway

2 min read
Immediately following Monday’s Fox executive session at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Dana Walden — Chairman and CEO of the Fox Television Group — told reporters that a potential 11th season would likely exceed Season 10’s relatively short six-episode run.

“We would have liked to have done more [episodes] in the first place,” said Walden. “It was really the limitations of David and Gillian and Chris’ schedules. Gillian lives in the UK, David lives in New York and California, and we do the show in Vancouver. Chris lives up north. So it was just trying to coordinate a time where they all carve out a period to be in Vancouver.”

This time around, the network and studio “have longer to plan” for another season. “We’re in conversations that intentionally we could do more,” she said. “I don’t imagine it being a full season of The X-Files, but I would be really happy if we were able to get eight to 10 episodes.”

“We would love to do other seasons,” Fox Entertainment president David Madden said. “There are significant talks with all three principals”, creator Chris Carter and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.  “We are working hard, and would like to get a new season soon.”

Madden and Walden were asked whether the network would want to make creative changes for a new season of The X-Files since the recent one was met with mixed reviews. “I actually think the season was strong,” Madden said. “The episodes represent Chris and his team’s vision, and we will take our cue from them.”

Added Walden, “The show was off the air for a very long time. It was introduced to new viewers, and (the writers) had the challenge of filling in the mythology. Going forward, there won’t be the same obligation to reset the series.”

Also, The X Files' science advisor, Anne Simon, had something to say. According to her recent tweets, we can expect new episode next year, and the next episode is called "My Struggle 3."

Yes, but actually... No.
